Laker Cents: Youth Month is Important for Parents, Too

Every year, the Credit Union National Association chooses a theme for youth month, which takes place in April. Credit unions nation-wide are encouraged to emphasize the importance of saving to their current (and future) youth members. The chosen theme for 2018 is “The Science of Saving.”

At GLFFCU, we are encouraging kids to come and join our Youth Club. Any child 0-12 who open a NEW youth account or deposits $25 into an existing Youth Account will be entered to win a 2-night stay at the Tundra Lodge Resort in Green Bay. Additionally for kids 0-7, we’re giving away an Outside Spring Fun basket. For kids 8-12 we’re giving away a light-up Bluetooth speaker!

Spring is a perfect time of year to help your child start a savings account. It’s a time for new beginnings, fresh starts, and possibility. Introducing them to importance of saving at a young age can help shape their entire financial future – and there’s no better place to start than at GLFFCU.

Opening an account for your child takes less than a half hour of time, and during April, you don’t even need any money to open it. We’re making the process hassle free by providing the $5.00 to keep the account open + the $1.00 membership fee.

We’re making Youth Month exciting for kids, giving them the chance to win fun prizes and discover how great it can feel to save money. If you want to get on board and begin teaching your kids the Science of Saving, come visit us this month!
